Dr. Reuben W. Cook


Dr. Cook earned his B.S, (Accounting) in 1975 from UA and his J.D. from UA School of Law in 1978. After attending the U.S. Army Infantry Officers School, he earned his LL.M. (Taxation) from Emory University School of Law. Before starting his career at UA, Dr. Cook worked in banking, practiced law and had brief employments in the insurance field in New York City and with the Alabama Department of Revenue. He passed the Alabama, Georgia and Florida Bars and currently either inactive or retired from these organizations.

Dr. Cook began his career at UA at the beginning of 1988 at the Law School where he was Associate
Director of the Alabama Disabilities Advocacy Program (ADAP) and within two years was named Executive Director. ADAP is Alabama’s statewide federal funded Protection and Advocacy (P&A) program and the only P&A entity that is part of an university. During his tenure at ADAP, Dr. Cook was the PI for over $22 million in federal and other grants. Also, he was involved in the national recognized Wyatt (Mental Health) and R.C. (Foster Care) lawsuits; Alabama Education Funding lawsuit plus other disability legal issues.

Since the mid-2004, Dr. Cook has been part of the HES family where he is currently an Assistant Professor and teaches in 3 different areas this Fall: RHM 474 Managerial Accounting for the Hospitality Industry; HES 563 Finance & Accounting in Sports; and CSM 116 Quantitative Methods of Finance (2 sections). In the past, he has taught in the classroom, HES 565 Legal & Ethical Issues in Sports; CSM454/554 Personal Income Tax; and RHM 574.
